REV. DR. JAMES B. LOGAN, SENIOR PASTOR
Rev. Dr. James B. Logan is the sixth Pastor of the historic 132 year-old Messiah Baptist Church in Bridgeport, CT. Dr. Logan is a native New Yorker. His parents are Deacons James and Mamie Logan of Convent Avenue Baptist Church in New York City. Dr. Logan’s academic accomplishments consist of a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from York College of the City University of New York; Master of Divinity degree from New York Theological Seminary and Doctor of Ministry degree in Christian Education from Dallas Theological Seminary with a concentration in Marriage and Family Ministry. Dr. Logan’s dissertation was entitled, “A Comparative Church Study of Successful Family Ministry Models.” In addition, Dr. Logan received several Human Resources Management Certifications from Cornell School of Industrial Labor Relations in New York City.
Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, Dr. Logan worked for over 20 years in both the public and private sectors. His professional and career experience included a breadth of responsibilities in administration, human resources, training and development, clinical services, career coaching and benefits management. These assignments spanned industries such as Health Care, Pharmaceutical, Outplacement Services and Sports Management. He also served as an adjunct professor at the College of New Rochelle, Manhattan Campus, teaching classes in Theology and The Black Church.
Dr. Logan was called to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ during his progressive growth in the public and private sectors. However, God used him to be a light in the marketplace and to develop skills that would eventually be needed for the work of ministry planned for his life. Dr. Logan was licensed and ordained to the gospel ministry under the leadership of his former Pastor, the late Reverend Dr. Clarence P. Grant, at Convent Avenue Baptist Church in New York City. Dr. Logan served five years as the first full-time Executive Pastor of the Convent Avenue Baptist Church in New York City under his Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Jesse T. Williams, Jr. Prior to this full time position, he was bi-vocational as the Children and Youth Pastor for twelve years.
On June 16, 2013, Dr. Logan was humbled to be called as the sixth Pastor of the Messiah Baptist Church, Bridgeport, CT and installed on March 16, 2014.
Dr. Logan has a passion for equipping people to live transformed lives through Christ while reaching their full potential. He also has a burden to bring restoration and healing to families and broken relationships. He serves at Messiah with joy and great expectation of God doing a marvelous work through the ministry while impacting the community and the entire state of Connecticut.

Dr. Logan’s memberships and affiliations are the Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention, National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., American Baptist Churches of Connecticut, Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Greater Bridgeport and Vicinity, Inc., Congregations Organized for a New Connecticut (CONECT), The Council of Churches of Greater Bridgeport, Inc. and Life Time Member of the NAACP of New York.
Dr. Logan is happily married to his beautiful wife, Virginia Caroline, who continues to serve faithfully with him in ministry and under-girds him in prayer. They are the proud parents of two lovely daughters, Olivia Savannah and Sydney Alexandria. Pastor and Lady Logan partner together as they serve in their roles at Messiah Baptist Church; and believe that through Christ, the best is yet to come!
